ABOUT OUR PROGrams

Our curriculum is flexible and allows for spontaneous learning experiences to occur in response to children’s ideas and interests, our community and the environment. We plan holistic learning experiences with the intention of supporting the learning and development of the whole child. Language and literacy, numeracy, science, art, social-emotional and physical education are embedded in our curriculum. We work with children to support their individual needs, and to meet them where they’re at in their learning journeys. This is the beauty of early childhood education and care.

Explorers’ group

Our daily explorers’ group ensures that the Urunga Community Preschool children are well known in the community as we are always out and about in our orange high-vis vests. Each day an educator takes a small group of children out in the village to explore, investigate nature, and visit the shops, library, and museum or art gallery. We use our professional judgement to determine the extent of the walks according to the dynamics of the group of the day, with safety being our number one priority. The explorers’ group is a big hit with children who just love getting out and about. More programs

Small group learning

We lead small groups daily including an inside group that often involves music and movement, dancing and stories, and cooperative games. Our outside group tends to focus on teaching fundamental movement skills to promote strong physical development. More programs

Garden learning

Our veggie garden and backyard chooks provide opportunities for the children to connect with nature, to enjoy growing and nurturing and to understand where and how fresh food is produced. More programs

Meal-times

We have relaxed meal times with a focus on being social, enjoying each other's company and discussing healthy eating, recycling and composting. Our morning tea and lunch times occur around the same time each day, and children enjoy the predictability of this regular routine. More programs

Artistic expression

Our indoor and outdoor environments are thoughtfully set up to promote children’s creativity. Children enjoy expressing themselves, using natural resources and quality art resources. Children create in so many ways; from building and engineering bridges and dams in the sand-pit to making things at the carpentry bench to sculpting with clay and paicting masterpieces. More programs
